Vintage Venue – Humana, Berlin (Oranienburger Straße)

Any vintage store with quality leather jackets and second-hand suede immediately gets my vote of approval.

Let’s be clear: with more and more animal-friendly, vegan leather options popping up over the past years, I realise that wearing leather and suede can be a bit of a thorny issue. Still, when it comes to second-hand and vintage garments, I uphold a strict “waste not, want not” policy.

It comes as no surprise, then, that I was thrilled to find several racks full of gorgeous leather jackets and skirts, including a knee-length skirt I ended up purchasing for just 11 euros.

According to its website, Humana prides itself in being able to offer customers “pearls of bygone fashion eras” while still upholding its core values of sustainability and conscious consumerism. Humana has a total of 21 stores in Berlin, Hamburg, Dresden, Köln, and Leipzig, including the one I visited near the Hackescher Markt.

Humana boasts on its site of “new wares daily,” which is likely going include unsold pieces from its other shops. This particular store offers an extensive collection, featuring [among other items] sneakers, band T-shirts, as well as a pretty diverse stock of ladies’ blouses from different decades. At the time of my visit there was a 50% off sale which started on 1 January.

Humana is a really affordable venue, featuring a really solid collection. And with twelve stores in Berlin alone, planning a visit could not be easier.
